11 December 2017. Don Khong Circuit
I took the hotel’s bicycle and cycled across the island. It
was all a pleasant journey in the sweltering sun and gave lots of scenes of
rural life.
The village the other side was completely untouched by tourism and seemed really nice.
My circuit then and then went in a V to the bridge at the south
and back up to where I was staying.
In the road outside, a heard of goats wander around, doing a bit of spontaneous pruning.
All in all, a lovely day that rushed by.

I also went and changed some money at the ‘bank’ across the
road. The ATMs were not working – presumably emptied by the weekend party. I
have been struck by the lack of things you assume will be there the moment you
set off from cities in Laos. You cannot rely on functioning ATMs, plan B taxis,
people taking credit cards. Of course, this is part of the charm but you need to be
prepared for it.
