12 December 2017. To the North and back

The view across the river from where I'm staying features a very attention-grabbing Buddha that unfortunately I won't have time to visit

What I did do was head north on the bike, keeping the Mekong on my right. Again this was a pleasant journey – if anything even prettier than yesterday. Along the way, were lots of cattle and pretty views

as well as a continuous set of craters to avoid

I turned at a spot where the road goes right up to the river, affording lovely views of people fishing as well as the incredible abundance of wildlife from butterflies to birds.

On the way back I noticed some of the interesting building and Wats

and generally enjoyed the peaceful road.

Apart from this, there is nothing really to do in Don Khong and so it throws one back on oneself. I have grown too used to always having the next thing to rush off to. It’s nice to have no excuse for failing to do the things I claim I want to do like learning Spanish, doing my stretches and reading up on Greek mythology – to name bu three!
