4 December 2017. On to Ubon Ratchathani
The lady who had sold me the ticket for the train from Korat pointed out this was a special Express, as opposed to the train to Korat which was just an Express. So it proved. This train had proper aircon and not just fans; they also gave an airline type meal after about an hour - neither breakfast or lunch at late mid-morning.
The passing scenery never really changed - very flat arable (rice, wheat) with quite a lot of water buffalo and cows.
The train was again full and somewhat cramped and I was glad when my neighbour alighted about half an hour short of my destination.
Once we arrived at Ubon a station staff member asked me where I was going and negotiated with a driver. This was very helpful. The drive to the hotel was way longer than I expected and it is clear that Ubon is a large city.
Once I'd settled in I tried walking into town but gave up after about 45 minutes - it was like walking along the North Circular!
