15 December 2017. Walk round Champasak

Champasak is ribbon development epitomised. Buildings extend for about two miles along a relatively peaceful road. A block further from the river there is a busier road with much less housing. The residential road is pretty with lots of photogenic buildings.

Right at the outset of my walk, the road was closed to traffic for a celebration - though I never found out what it was.
About half way is a rather unnecessary roundabout
with the tourism office nearby. This gives a helpful introduction to the region and particularly Wat Phu.
At midday, the road filled up  with all the commuting schoolchildren. It turned at that the secondary school was at the very end of town.
The road has a semi rural feel to it with cows crazing the verges.

The mountains give a great backdrop

and the gardens are pretty with their flowers

I passed the post office which didn't look particularly promising
and a house in the most interesting colours

It was a steamingly hot day and the road had the sun pointing straight down it. I felt I deserved an indolent afternoon watching the river and seeing the garden in front of me take shape.

In the evening I had grilled fish. It was delicious but attracted the attention of three hopeful cats
