23 December 2017. Lamma and LKF

I decided to go to Lamma as I had good memories of it from past visits.
I went down to Central, passing a huge Christmas tree
as well as a big top decked out in MCC colours
I got the ferry to Yung Shue Wan and took the trail to Sok Kwu Wan.
It is an easy walk, made interesting by the slightly hippy tone to the island.
The views along the way are great but this time included evidence of a fire that must have been earlier in the year.



I wasn't exactly the only one taking the walk
and there were lots of stalls along the way
Towards the end, there is a good view of the destination
and I was soon in the queue for the return ferry
The ferry arrived in view and we were off back to Central.

On the way in we passed the Greenpeace Rainbow Warrior and I strolled to to take a look. It had been open but their day was now finished so I didn't get to go on board.


I did, however, have a chat with some of their supporters who were looking to sign up new members.
From the walkway at Central, my attention was grabbed by a Santa Scootercade passing underneath.
In the evening, after a nice meal I went up the mid levels escalator and then back to Lan Kwai Fong.
It was fairly busy but seemed to have been taken over by bars with shisha pipes.

The National Gallery of Singapore was on the verge of opening last time I was here two years ago. It is an amazing triumph, fusing the old Supreme Court sand City Hall. The Supreme Court has three floors of galleries devoted to South East Asian Art. The City Hall houses temporary exhibitions as well as the Galleries of Singapore Art. Frankly is was more than a day's worth of viewing. Quite apart from the art in the galleries, there is the architecture of the building(s) and the views from the decks at the top. I started with the South East Asia galleries. This is a chronological exhibition, starting from the early nineteenth century. So everything was in the context of a Western intrusion in some shape or form. 25 December 2017. Artless in Kowloon

So, I had arrived at my last day. Having checked in my bag at Central, I took the Star Ferry to Kowloon, planning to spend a couple of hours in the art gallery. It is part of a 'South Bank' type complex and first of all I visited the concert hall. This had an exhibition of art by students that was a mix of calligraphy and figurative work. That proved to be almost it on the art front. The gallery had closed not long after my last visit - in August 2015 and was due to open early in 2019. It struck me as a bit like closing both the National Gallery and Tate for four years. But there we are! Outside there were a couple of interesting sculptures and so they had to suffice for my artistic input. 24 December 2017. Trip to the New Territories - Sai Kung and Wong Shek

I'd never been to the New Territories in my previous vists and decided on a journey that was described as scenic. I'm so glad I did so. It was a beautiful day with a clear blue sky and I headed for Admiralty to do the first leg of my journey. On the way to the station I came across a Democracy Demonstration that seemed well humoured on the part of the demonstrators and the police. The MTR took me to Diamond Hill. From there, I took the 92 to Sai Kung. This was itself a very pleasant 30 minute ride past a large marina, as well as a prison run by the Correctional Service. At Sai Kung, I switched to the 94 to Wong Shek. I seemed to be about the only person on the bus without an enormous backpack and hiking sticks.
